Impact

I was thinking the other day about what my internship at City on a Hill is all about. We have a vision for ourselves that we want to Lead, Inspire, Empower, and help Define the people we come in contact with here including the participants of our missions trips or the families of the communities. The Define part of our vision is also for ourselves in that we want to define our purpose and calling in life. The first thing I want to recognize is that we would not be able to do any of this without the help of God. Without Christ I am nothing, But I can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens me! (Philippians 4:13).

Thinking about how God has used me to lead, inspire, empower, and define the lives of people throughout my life I asked myself the question, "What kind of impact am I making in their lives?" Am I impacting it for the good or am I being a hindrance for how they will spend eternity? We should always be in the position to impact someone so they see the life of Jesus Christ. Nothing we do should hinder somebody's walk with Christ. How am I impacting somebody's life, whether I know it or not?

Am I impacting it like when you throw a rock into the depths of a lake? Depending on the size of the rock, a certain size of splash will occur then a ripple effect will take place. I see this as something that has immediate impact but after a while it will fade away and not much has changed.

Does how I impact others look more like a crater created by a meteorite? When a meteorite collides with the planet it can create a crater. The immediate impact is so large that it moves earth! And everything that moves will be there permanently until some other force acts upon it. This type of impact has the possibility to really shape and define someone's life.

This idea of impact can be both positive and negative but as long as I am obedient to the Lord I have faith that the impact I have on others will be positive. I hope I am able to have a big and lasting impact and not just a small splash that will wash away eventually. I encourage you to think about the impact you have and are making on others. Some of you have had a big impact on me and who knows, maybe I have impacted your life somehow.
