Restoration

About a year ago I took a test called Strengthsfinders. This is an assessment of your top strengths. After the test you receive your score which is your top 5 strengths out of a list of 34 different possibilities. Mine are (in no particular order) Futuristic, Adaptability, Woo, Belief, and Restorative. The one I want to focus on today is restorative!

About a month ago I moved to Sauk Centre, MN to start my career as a youth pastor. Being new to town and not having many friends to hang out with yet I decided to take on a project. This project would have to take up some time and I wanted it to be productive and allow me to reflect on my day. After thinking long and hard about what I wanted to do I decided to refinish or restore an old dresser that I have.

Part of the reason I chose to take on this project is that I knew one of my strengths was restorative. Another reason was that this dresser was so scratched up and I hated the stickers that were on it. Something about me is that I love to bring old things to life! I love seeing things that are worn out become something better, something that they used to be.

I believe that this fits in well with being a youth pastor. I love being able to help youth find life in Jesus Christ! It is energizing for me to see life be brought to something or someone. Some might say it is life-giving! (Double-meaning)

So as I move forward in my life. I look forward to opportunities to work through my restorative strength with people and perhaps another piece of furniture.

Here is what the dresser looks like now!
